Giuseppe LONGHI (Monza 1766 - Milan 1831) "Cupid and Love" Original etching signed and dated in the plate "Joseph Longhi sc. 1794 ”in the lower right, from a subject by Guido Reni (1575 - 1642). Nice copy printed on laid paper, trimmed inside the impression of the slab without leaks and applied on an old frame sheet, slightly burnished uniformly and with minimal defects on the edges but overall in excellent general condition. Inserted in a fine 19th century French frame in gold leaf carefully put in order. Giuseppe Longhi was the Engraving Professor at the Milanese Academy of Brera from 1798, the best Italian engravers of the early nineteenth century were trained at his school, he was also the official engraver of Napoleon in Italy. The original painting by Reni, oil on canvas of 132 x 163cm, painted between 1522 and 1523, is now preserved in the National Gallery of Palazzo Spinola in Genoa Bibliography: Apell "Handbuch fur Kupferstichsammler" Leipzig 1880 page 250 n ° 20. Benezit "Dictionnaire des Peintres ..."
